What is it about a hit song that makes it climb the charts and take the world by storm? Find out in the debut panel series presented by Song Summit.

VIVID Sydney presents the debut APRA|AMCOS event: Song Summit Presents In Conversation. Five world-class producers and songwriters will discuss the key ingredients of a hit pop song, providing festival goers with a true insight into the collaborative process behind the hits of our time.

About the speakers

Arnthor Birgisson

Arnthor Birgisson is a Swedish songwriter and producer who plays a mixture of pop and R&B. Arnthor’s breakthrough came with the song Because of You, written for boy band 98 Degrees. He has also written hits for Ronan Keating, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Janet Jackson, Samantha Mumba and Celine Dion.

In 2008, Arnthor’s song Say OK, performed by Vanessa Hudgens, was rewarded the prize for ‘This Year’s Biggest American Pop Hit’ at the BMI London Awards. He currently has the worldwide hit "Impossible" performed by British singer James Arthur.

Gary Clark

Scottish musician Gary Clark has worked with numerous artists and writers, including on Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘Wrong Impression’ for which he won the PRS Writer of The Award in 2003. Other artists include Liz Phair, Mel C, Emma Bunton, Cathy Dennis, Nick Carter, Shannon Noll, Mark Owen (Take That), Eddi Reader, The Veronicas, David McAlmont, Delta Goodrem and The Wanted.

In 2007, Clark moved from London to the United States, co-writing and co-producing the Ferras record Aliens And Rainbows with The Matrix for Capitol Records, tracks for Clique Girlz and British Band McFly. He produced and co-wrote the song "Got Dynamite" for Demi Lovato on her #1 album Here We Go Again.

Chris DeStefano

Chris DeStefano is a singer/songwriter and record producer working in Los Angeles and Nashville.

His recent writing and/or production credits include Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Scotty McCreery, Jana Kramer, and Eli Young Band among many others.

Chris recently landed #1 on the Billboard Digital Country Music chart with Carrie Underwood's single 'Good Girl' (C. Underwood, C. DeStefano, A. Gorley), and has Jana Kramer's current single 'Why Ya Wanna' (C. DeStefano, A. Gorley, C. Gravitt), which has strong momentum at country radio. Chris is also a multi-instrumentalist, proficient on guitar, bass, keyboards, violin, ukelele, and mandolin.

Louis Schoorl

Louis Schoorl is a songwriter/producer from Amsterdam who has worked with a wide range of artists of all different genres from pop to soul, jazz to R&B, rock to country and hip hop. They include Daniel Johns, The Veronicas, Guy Sebastian, 360, Jessica Mauboy, De La Soul, Damien Leith, Tina Arena, Timomatic and many, many more.

Louis was nominated for 3 ARIA Awards for his co-write with Jessica Mauboy and Ilan Kidron for the title song ‘Gotcha’ from the hit Australian film ‘The Sapphires’.

Schoorl is a proficient multi instrumentalist and has played drums, bass, guitars and keys on many of his productions. Especially interested in taking a personal approach to song writing, Louis likes to work closely with the artist in full collaboration.

Stuart Crichton

Stuart Crichton is a successful songwriter and producer with several top 10 UK and international hits, working with a number of world-renowned artists such as; Kylie Minogue, Delta Goodrem, Guy Sebastian, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Elton John, Brian McFadden, Sugababes, Jamelia and Dame Shirley Bassey.

In addition to this, Stuart currently has songs on hold for many international artists, and is in production with a number of artists including; Sinead Burgess, Gary Go, Selena Gomez, Ricki Lee Coulter and Stan Walker. Stuart discovered where his passions and talent lie – in the studio. Stuart is a prolific songwriter and well-respected producer.
