Steve Cropper made his musical debut on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand in 1961 with his High School band The Mar-Keys #3 song, “Last Night.” And thus the legend began.
Just one year later, along with Booker T & The MG’s, Cropper co-wrote the #1 smash hit Green Onions. In the years to follow he co-wrote some of the music world’s biggest classics such as Knock On Wood, In The Midnight Hour, 6345789 and the legendary (Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay with friend Otis Redding, establishing Cropper as a songwriting genius.
Producing soon became second nature as ‘The Colonel’ turned out timeless tracks by renowned artists like Wilson Picket, Eddie Floyd, Tower of Power, Poco, John Prine and Otis Redding.
Cropper’s exemplary guitar work can be heard on albums by Rod Stewart, Ringo Starr, Art Garfunkle, Booker T & The MG’s and most STAX artists. Mr. Cropper has played on more than 3,000 recordings. He has toured with such greats as Neil Young, Jimmy Buffet and the Original Animals.
In the Late 70′s Steve began his now famous work as an original of the Blues Brothers Band, appearing in both major motion pictures and numerous TV shows. He continues touring with them today as well as Booker T & The MG’s and also ‘The STAX Show,’ featuring the great Eddie Floyd. He currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee where along with his wife Angel Hosts many Charity events.
Cropper has been inducted into many Hall of Fames including the Rock and Roll HOF, the Rythem & Blues HOF and the Songwriters HOF. Recently Cropper was named 39th in the Rolling Stone Magazine’s top 100 guitar players of all time.
Undoubtedly, Steve Cropper has successfully covered his bases as a songwriter/producer/guitarist and lucky for us all — the Legend continues.
