Neal Hunt

Tour Management

Neal Teaches Cultural Policy, Tour Management, Music Marketing, Music Management and Micro Business. He is artist manager for Sticky Fingers and Lyall Moloney and has toured artists like Jesca Hoop (U.S.) and Swamp Thing (NZ) in Australia. He has also toured Rogerthat for the band’s second tour in Europe, the UK and their first tour in Canada.

Neal has had a lifetime interest and involvement in music. Since the beginning of the punk era in Australia, he’s played and written for bands from Adelaide to Sydney, throughout the eighties and nineties.

As manager of The Beautiful Girls (2000-2009), he gained a wealth of experience in national and international territories (including a lengthy focus on the US, UK, France and NL). He managed The Beautiful Girls (TBG) from the beginning of the band’s career in 2000 to late 2009. This included setting up businesses, taking care of marketing plans, publicity and bookings.

This paved the way for Neal to tour foreign artists in Australia. He managed Mason Jennings, State Radio and Nine Mile when they toured with TBG. It included all the challenges that come with international booking. During his term as manager, The Beautiful Girls completed 11 international tours (including US, UK, France, NL, Germany and Japan).Their album Learn Yourself went platinum and all other releases never sold less than 25,000 copies.

In 2007, Neal started managing Rogerthat. The band toured through Europe, the UK and Canada twice as well as releasing records and touring heavily throughout Australia.

Neal has also written for music journals throughout Australia. In the early 1990s he worked full time at On The Street and spent some time working for Revolver and then Brag in Sydney. During this time he assisted bands with different areas of their career – sometimes in a consultant capacity, sometimes as a publicist, agent and eventually manager.

In July 2007 he started the Sureshaker label – a multipurpose music company. The company has a strong role in artist development, covering publicity and marketing (touring artists, building websites, ensuring strong net presence, press releases, strategies and timing around tours and releases, developing press contact lists) as well as developing an audience/band relationship – particularly for local artists. Sureshaker acts as a publisher and management company.

As well as teaching, Neal continues to work developing artists like Sticky Fingers, Lyall Moloney and Rogerthat. He’s also worked with Black Market Rhythm Co and Lucky Fonz III (Netherlands).
