Joel Madden serves as a coach on The Voice, Nine Network reality vocal competition series that searches for the nation’s best voice.
As the front man of multi-platinum selling pop rock band Good Charlotte, Madden needs no introduction when it comes to being down under. The lead vocalist for the band, Madden uses his life experience for lyrics, giving Good Charlotte it’s personal connection with their fans. Sydney has become his second home with identical twin brother Benji for Good Charlotte tours, DJ’ing, writing and producing numerous Australia artist and just enjoying the Australian lifestyle.
Good Charlotte have sold more than 10 million albums worldwide and are best known for the singles Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and Dance Floor Anthem, which catapulted the band to global recognition in 2003. They have won two Teen Choice Awards, eight MTV Music Awards and shared the stage with everyone from Justin Timberlake to Third Eye Blind.
Born and raised in Waldorf, Maryland, Joel first connected with Good Charlotte band members at the age of 16, where he formed it with his identical twin brother Benji and two school friends. They took the name Good Charlotte from a children’s book. The band has released five studio albums: Good Charlotte (2000), The Young and the Hopeless (2002), The Chronicles of Life and Death (2004), Good Morning Revival (2007) and Cardiology (2010) as well as two compilations Greatest Remixes (2008) and Greatest Hits (2010). Moving forward the brothers released a mix tape to critical acclaim in late 2011 and Joel and Benji are set to release their debut album under The Madden Brothers name this fall.
Madden joined THE VOICE because he feels it gives everyone the opportunity to be heard and to really have the chance to show what they’ve got without any preconceived conceptions. He is listening out for something special, looking for a voice that tells him a truth or story that he’s never heard before.
