Charles Jenkins is a Melbourne songwriter/musician and performer with more than 25 years experience in the Australian Music Industry.
Starting out with the rockabilly/punk outfit the Mad Turks from Istanbul through to power-pop band the Icecream Hands, Charles is now forging a successful solo career, receiving critical acclaim for his four solo albums.
Charles has recorded and released ten albums, both locally and internationally including his solo albums Bungalow (2004) and The City Gates (2005) and BlueAtlas (2008) . He has toured Europe and America as a solo artist and toured the USA with the Icecream Hands. His latest solo album Walk This Ocean was released Oct 2010. A published songwriter for more than 20 years, Charles signed to Mushroom Publishing in 2004, and his songs have been placed in local and international television and film and recorded by artists of the calibre of Rebecca Barnard and Kerri Simpson. He has been nominated for two ARIAS with the band Icecream Hands, and performed on the SBS music show RocKwiz. Of late he has co-written songs with Mick Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything), Angie Hart (Frente), Abby Dobson (Leonardo’s Bride) and Suzannah Espie.
Charles has run song writing, vocal and performance workshops over the last 8 years with a wide cross section of the Victorian community. With Living Music he has worked in the Juvenile Justice system and with those in disadvantaged situations such as at Gateway. With the Festival of Healthy Living and the Berry St organisation he had taught song writing in country Victorian schools.
He has facilitated youth songwriting and performance programs with Whitehorse, Pakenham and the City of Wodonga Councils, and runs one on one workshops with up and coming young Victorian songwriters in conjunction with APRA and The Push, Arts Victoria and The Australian Council for the Arts with the program Push Songs.
