Brett Cottle is the Chief Executive of Australasian Performing Right Association Limited (APRA), a position held since July 1990.

APRA represents over 67,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers in Australia and New Zealand. In 1997 APRA entered into a management arrangement with the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (AMCOS), following which Brett took on the AMCOS CEO role in addition to APRA responsibilities. From December 1994 until April 1999 Brett held the position of Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Committee of CISAC (International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers). In 2000 Brett was appointed Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of CISAC and in 2006 he was elected Chairman, a position he held until 2010.

Brett is a past Director of both the Australian Copyright Council and the Copyright Law Review Committee. He is on the Board of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Limited, a music therapy charity organisation, and was Chair from May 2008 until September 2009.
