In another time, but a similar place, Dom Alessio ditched a psychology degree to pursue the unglamorous and underpaid world of street press journalism. He spent years as the Arts & Assistant Editor of Sydney’s The Brag magazine, subbing grammatically incorrect film reviews and occasionally interviewing someone who would buy him a coffee. Once a week, in between all that, Dom hosted The Bridge – the Sydney music show on FBi 94.5FM in Sydney. Along with his mate Jerry, Dom co-founded the first music blog entirely dedicated to Australian music called Who The Bloody Hell Are They. There was also a multitude of unpaid freelance work as well that we don’t need to go into.
In 2009, Dom bid farewell to the world of street press and started as one of the hosts of Home & Hosed, the Australian music show on triple j. For the past two years, Dom has been the sole voice of Home & Hosed and spends most of his day with headphones on, listening to multitudes of Australian music from our country’s biggest bands to bedroom producers in the suburbs of Darwin. Luckily for Dom, he’d be doing this even if he wasn’t getting paid to do it. You can hear him on triple j at 9pm Monday to Thursday playing the best new local tunes.
