Alan Balchin joined APRA in January 2011 as the Director of Business Development. In September 2011, his department merged with Information Technology, making Adam Director of Systems and Business Development.

Before APRA, Alan worked for many years at PRSforMusic – the United Kingdom’s APRA equivalent. During the 1990s, he was International Director and responsible for maximising PRS members’ income from overseas and building relations with other collecting societies worldwide. Afterwards, he became Repertoire Director and then Director of Business Development. In this role, he helped set up the International Copyright Enterprise, a joint venture with STIM – Sweden’s rights collecting society.

Alan currently focuses on bringing together business and IT at APRA as well as developing APRA’s future Technology Strategy. Adam also plays a central role in representing APRA in the Global Repertoire Database initiative.

Alan also studied at Trinity College of Music in London and is a classically trained flautist. He also has a Diploma in Advanced Management from Ashridge (UK) and studied Change Management at Harvard (US).
