Susy Blue

Melbourne songstress Susy Blue is an intoxicating cocktail of shadowy cabaret folk. Influences of her past as a classical flautist, to love affairs with jazz, Latin, folk and gypsy styles all spice her quirky songs, always complemented by an impressive entourage of instrumentalists. Seeing the obvious potential in Susy, the Australian Youth Council awarded her a Buzz Grant in 2007 to record her debut EP. The continuing musical evolution of Susy Blue has also seen her named a finalist in the 2010 Melbourne Music Prize (Development Award) and the Darebin Music Feast Songwriters’ Award as well as earning her place on 2009′s Naked In The Woods Freeza compilation alongside such luminaries Katy Steele, Jen Cloher and Angie Hart. Susy Blue has lovingly stamped her way into the hearts of audiences locally and to acclaim at the Woodford and Apollo Bay music festivals. Her 2011 debut album Curly Girl received critical acclaim and local and national airplay, including Triple J and Radio National. Infused with the whimsy, shaken by the heart-racing impetus of klezmer and the topped with sultry possibilities of jazz and lighter shades of folk; Susy Blue’s unique music expression is addictive in its sensuous complexity.
