- The Song Summit Sessions
Sunday: 5:30pm – 5.50pm
At first glance, 19 year old singer-songwriter Andrew Redford from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast looks like any young indie kid with a guitar, until you hear his voice! With his melodic rock stylings, impressive vocals and ease on stage, Andrew has been captivating crowds around the country since his first strum.
The only musician in his family, Andrew moved from Melbourne to Maroochydore as a youngster and learned the guitar from the age of 10. By age 11, he had his first single on rotation at his local community radio station and from there the trajectory began.
Now a self-taught multi-instrumental, the award winning artist has released three independent EP’s to date. His latest offering Hey Lucy, released in early 2012, demonstrates his diversity as an artist; experimenting with more complex arrangements and self-producing the work in his home studio.
Describing his music as a mix of indie, pop, folk and soft rock, Andrew has won many accolades in his short but impressive music career.
Most recently, he won the coveted Performer Category of the 2012 Telstra Road to Discovery, beating hundreds of other independent artists from around the nation.
In 2010 he took out the $10,000 Billy Thorpe Scholarship at the Q Song Awards and was a finalist in the APRA Professional Development Awards in 2011. Andrew has also received international acclaim when shortlisted in the 2009 Songbird British Song Competition.
Continuing his list of international accolades, Andrew was recently announced as a finalist in the 2012 International Songwriting Competition being recognised alongside other well-known Australian artists like Kasey Chambers, Shane Nicholson and Kevin Mitchell to name a few.
Currently a full-time working musician, Andrew credits Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Bob Dylan and Australian family duo Angus and Julia Stone as some of his musical influences.
With his feet yet to touch the ground since winning the Telstra Road to Discovery in January, 2012 is shaping up to be a big year.
Andrew has performed to a room full of his musical peers at the Australian Country Music Awards in Tamworth, has toured with 2011 CMA Global Artists of the Year, The McClymonts, is supporting Pete Murray in his upcoming tour of Queensland and will travel to Nashville in September to perform at the 2012 Americana Festival.
With a burning desire to continue to stretch his creativity and carve his own musical path, Andrew Redford is revealing his potential as a true stayer in the Australian music scene.
