- Jamm For Genes
Sunday: 7:10pm – 7:30pm
When you witness Adam Katz on stage, you don’t simply ‘hear’ him; you become ‘engaged’ and ‘involved’. When you’re talking about his melodic fusion of pop, R&B and hip hop, it’s something altogether more authentic than the manufactured ‘hits’ we’ve come to expect from the charts. Adam Katz is the real deal.
Katz’ grassroots success is evident in his already impressive history on stage, both as a solo artist as well as lead vocalist for ‘The Next Step’ (CSR/Universal AUS) collective. He’s a regular at Sydney hotspots like Piano Room, Opera Bar and The IVY, has performed several times at the seminal Splendour in the Grass Festival, and on the other end of the spectrum, supported the likes of R&B sensation Lloyd, as well as Akon, Pitbull and Kelly Rowland on the urban Supafest lineup.
The reason for Katz’ bubbling success is clear – his engaging live charisma, where he’s just as comfortable holding his own solo as he is fronting a 20-piece band, delivering a smooth pop melody or throwing down an improvised rap or freestyle. He’s celebrated for being able to break away from his routine at any moment, riffing spontaneously on what’s going on around him in the crowd.
However, it’s the standard of the songs that will take Katz to the next level. His anthems like ‘Stars’ and ‘Firefly’ are propelled into the pop stratosphere by his heartfelt melodies, with an emphasis on the sweet, the passionate and the catchy. Channeling the integrity and honesty of timeless artists like Michael Jackson, they’re full of stories about dreams, life, love – and dragons.
In ’10, Adam won Hot 30’s ‘Rise to Fame’ artist competition, with his original track ‘Stars’, achieving national airplay on 2dayfm, Australia’s biggest radio station. He has since worked with renowned pop producers like Styalz Fuego, Israel, Michael D’arcy and DNA Songs, and is currently readying his debut album. In the meantime, he’s extending an invite to come and check out one of his regular Sydney gigs. “If you come and see me perform, I promise to dedicate an entire minute to freestyle about it!”
