Shining the light on our international guests

Song Summit has a proud history of bringing internationally celebrated songwriters and industry professionals to Australian shores. And 2012 will be no different! Read on for a quick meet and greet with three of our international speakers, songstress Imogen Heap, legendary guitarist Steve ‘The Colonel’ Cropper & music publisher guru Peter Coquillard.

Imogen Heap
Imogen Heap
Fresh from the UK, Grammy Award-winning singer, composer and songwriter Imogen Heap will be one of the headliners at Song Summit 2012. As well as being an accomplished solo artist (Imogen  has produced three solo albums, the latest of which is 2009′s Ellipse) she is also known as half of the musical duo Frou Frou.

She has worked with luminaries Brian Eno and Jeff Beck in her quest to find her own personal sound, which incorporates  elements of rock, dance and electronic, as well as a focus on ambient sounds (such as the sounds of food cooking in a frying pan) to give her music “width and space”.

Her work has also appeared in film – Imogen’s song “Hide and Seek” was featured in The Last Kiss (starring Zach Braff) while she has also featured in the movies Just Like Heaven, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Garden State and the TV series Criminal Minds, CSI Miami  and Six Feet Under.

Steve Cropper

Legendary guitarist Steve ‘The Colonel’ Cropper needs little introduction. Best known as guitarist for Booker T and the M.G’s, he also achieved screen immortality as a member of the original Blues Brothers Band.

In addition, Steve has co-written classics such as “Knock On Wood” with Eddie Floyd, “In the Midnight Hour” with Wilson Pickett and “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” with Otis Redding. He has also backed and produced artists such as Sam & Dave, Rufus Thomas and Johnnie Taylor.

Steve’s influence on the industry has been widely recognised – while Rolling Stone magazine listed him at 36th on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, Britain’s Mojo magazine has declared  him “the greatest living guitar player” and in 2010, Steve was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
